In order to achieve our long-term goals related to increased postsecondary attainment, increased advancement into family-supporting jobs, and increased employer access to qualified workforce, SkillUp Washington has articulated the following strategies:
- 1) Invest in organizations, programs and systems that serve low-income working adults
- 2) Build partnerships that support postsecondary attainment by low-income working adults
- 3) Promote policies that support postsecondary attainment for low-income working adults
These strategies translate into the following five short-term strategies for our 2009 work program:
- On-Ramps and Bridge Programs: Design and test new approaches and programs to increase entry into postsecondary education
- Postsecondary Completion: Design and test new programs to increase postsecondary attainment of low-income working adults via delivery models that are more conducive to successful learning (e.g. on site teaching, week-end and evening courses, wrap-around services)
- Employer Partnerships: Increase industry investment in the education and training of entry-level and incumbent workers
- Alignment: Build the financial and organizational foundation to sustain the work of SkillUp Washington in 2009 and beyond
- Policy Development and Advocacy: Facilitate policy forums and take on specific policy action steps that help low-income working adults complete postsecondary education.
