Primary Goals

SkillUp Washington’s primary goal is to build a stronger economy that benefits local employers and working adults, via the following long-term goals:

  • 1) Increased postsecondary attainment (1 year, with a credential) for low-income working adults;
  • 2) Increased advancement into family-supporting jobs that support long-term career plans among low-income working adults; and
  • 3) Increased employer access to qualified workforce.

Ultimately, SkillUp Washington hopes to be a key player in facilitating changes in systems that will ensure persistence and success in completing post secondary education.  Research has shown that there are significant gains in wages and wage progression once a person has completed at least 45 credits at a post secondary education institution.  Without a post secondary credential, most individuals are unable to work in high wage jobs.
